Welcome! I hope to use this blog to share some of the amazing things my class and school does to make learning fun! I have been teaching for 15 years already! I started teaching 3rd grade in a Parochial School, then I was hired to teach 1st grade for three years, was moved to 5th grade for 2 years, and then came back to 1st grade in the district where I attended school. I love that I'm able to give back the the school district that guided me to become the teacher I am today! I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, certified 1-8; a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction; and my Administrator License Pre-K-12.

Ready for Open House!

Okay...to be honest...our Open House was almost a week ago now...no surprise, things have been crazy!  We're actually starting Day 3 today, but I wanted to post some pictures of our classroom....as it looked just before our Open House.

Why, yes....that IS a real live plant by the window that
I'm going to try not to kill this year.  :)

So...there's a peek at my new home for the next 9 months or so!  I still think it's unfinished because there's no student work hanging up but we'll get there!
Take care!

I'm loving my banners too! I made them myself! :) Okay...with a little help from Scrappin' Doodles...but I had to make the upside down triangles! (Hope you're sensing my humor...I was pretty proud of myself!)
I had to protect my tree a little bit more this year...it's becoming a little weathered, so I put my classroom library around it.

  2. Love your classroom! What is the tall stand for books by table 2? Looks like something I would like in
my classroom. Also what is the QR code on your door? I've been more into these codes but haven't braved
it to make my own. Thanks, Jackie jmcmanam@w-sioux.k12.ia.us

The tall book stand was given to me by one of our old librarians who retired a few years ago. There are three sides to it to display books and I love it. It's one of those pieces that are a little big for us (my kids can't reach the top books) but I can't give it away either. :)

I found that QR code idea on Pinterest and used this site to generate one:
      http://qrcode.kaywa.com

It "connects" to my class website where they can get a lot of information and keep up to date on what we're working on in the room.

I'm going to be checking out your cute superhero ideas this weekend. We're planning a small Superhero unit and tying it in with community helpers in the next week or so and then inviting our families into school to see what the kiddos have been working on.
