Welcome! I hope to use this blog to share some of the amazing things my class and school does to make learning fun! I have been teaching for 15 years already! I started teaching 3rd grade in a Parochial School, then I was hired to teach 1st grade for three years, was moved to 5th grade for 2 years, and then came back to 1st grade in the district where I attended school. I love that I'm able to give back the the school district that guided me to become the teacher I am today! I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, certified 1-8; a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction; and my Administrator License Pre-K-12.

Tech Thursday...a few days late!

So I totally didn't have enough hours in my day this week, therefore Tech Thursday is well...today!

I thought I'd share Tumblebooks with you!
If you don't already know, Tumblebooks is an online collection of digital picture books. Our Technology Integration Specialist at school came across this website a few years ago and had it purchased for our building. It's so great!

But wait...I have to admit something...I haven't entered fully into the world of digital books. I do have a few of the Tacky the Penguin books and the Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus apps on my iPhone and iPad but only because my nieces and nephew own the hard copy and it's a good distraction when my sister and I want to shop and they are with us. I can't really explain it but I think it's important for children to be able to hold a book in their hands. There's just something about reading from an actual book that I love. A little weird...I know.

Okay...back to Tumblebooks in my classroom. :) Not only does it offer a huge selection of quality stories, it also provides the opportunity for children to reflect on their reading by answering questions and complete puzzles and games that complement each story. I use Tumblebooks to help with transitions, compare and contrasting different versions of the story, etc. The best very best part is Robert Munsch reading his own books! I believe all of his books are a part of the collection and he reads them all...talk about FUN! The Robert Munsch books are my kiddos favorites!

Check out the Tumblebooks website for all of the details on pricing etc.

But shhh! You want to know a secret? Our local library offers Tumblebooks for free on our library's website. (I know!!!) Maybe your library offers the same! Just click on the link below and scroll down until you find the Tumblebooks logo on the right hand side and have fun exploring!

Have a good weekend!
Jenn
